The Morningstar Institute sponsored and conducted a two week business training and development seminar this June, 2011, in Manzini, Swaziland. The seminar was hosted by Southern Africa Nazarene University's vice chancellor Winnie Nhlengethwa and the university's S.I.F.E. (Students In Free Enterprise) team.

The Purpose of this seminar was to train in the business principles of marketing, accounting, and business planning and creation. The seminar consisted of 10 full days of training and events plus 4 evenings with workshops. There was 40 participants and the participants were split up into 10 teams comprising of 4 members each. During the first week of the seminar the participants had the opportunity to visit a local vocational and technical institute that is training young men and women in trade skills. Through this visit the teams were required to choose a trade skill and during the rest of the seminar build a business plan to start a small business for this trade skill.
The business plans that were created by the teams were submitted at the end of the second week and were judged by a panel that included the vice chancellor, the director of Morningstar, and 2 or 3 prominent Swazi business leaders. The winning teams were announced at the awards ceremony dinner that was held on the last night of the seminar.
The outcomes of this seminar included 40 students trained in business principles and business plan creation as well as the creation of 10 business plans for small businesses. These business plans can be directly applied to the Swaziland context and with minimal changes, and easily replicated and applied to the context of other developing countries .
